It happens every time a major release of Firefox comes out. In the FF4 RC, the display of unicode Bangla (A major language of Bangladesh and India) fonts is broken. I am attaching a screenshot composite of the same text in three different browsers. http://img851.imageshack.us/img851/3509/fontissueff4rc.png It works in Chrome 10 and IE8, but not in FF4 RC. Even the IETab 2 plugin inside FF4RC is able to display the text properly, but not FF4RC. Please help.

Chosen solution

It was also broken in firefox 6 too. but I just downloaded latest Kalpurush from omicronlab and everything is solved now. I used to use Siyam Rupali.

So the solution is just download latest Kalpurush from here http://www.omicronlab.com/bangla-fonts.html

বাংলা ফন্ট ভাঙ্গা দেখায়, মজিলার আগের ভারসনে এরকম হত না । কি করব?

If you're using Avro Keyboard. Then this step by step instructions might help you.

1. From Tools menu, select Options.

2. From this Options window, click on Contents.

3. Click on Advanced button in Fonts & Colors section.

4. Click on the drop down list for option Fonts For. Select Bengali from this list.

5. Complete (Replace) all the option fields (by Siyam Rupali Font) as in the following image (you may choose your any favourite Bangla font. but in the mean time FF4 doesn't correctly show "kalpurush" font, so siyam rupali is recommended ) and then click on OK.

Thank you bangla_sheyal. The tip came out to be enormously helpful for me.

Hi, I got the same problem and I also followed what bangla_sheyal told, but the problem is still there. Is there any other solution? Please help me to fix this...:(

Thank you for your reply, Bangla_Sheyal. Unfortunately, I don't think your solution matches my specific issue. I am a long time user of Avro keyboard. Setting the font to Siyam Rupali would help the display of Bangla font everywhere else EXCEPT inside a text box, such as the one you get when composing an email - which is what my screenshot shows.

In latest version of avro, it does not work. is there any other way? help help help, or should i switch to other browser only to see bangla?

Sumobd, many, many thanks. The new Kalpurush resolved my issue. I don't know what changed, though. I removed the old font and put in the new one, and bingo!!

all you need to do is just change the font of "bengali" language of your firefox browser...its 'siyam rupali' in default..and firefox 4 and upper versions have some prob with this font...

Go to firefox option..then proceed to content>font and colour>advance...then select "bengali" in font for section..then you can see the 2 default fonts for bengali..just change these 2 fonts into "Adorsholipi"...nothing more to change...select ok and quit..now your prob is solved...:p:p

check the picture below to have a clear idea...:P

This is the way I got rid of the problem, but using Kalpurush instead of the default font (following user sumobd's recommendations). I wonder: is Adorsholipi a Unicode-compliant font? Otherwise, it would create problems.
