Hi, I use ProtonVPN. When I use FIREFOX (75.0 64bit) with my VPN connected, and interrogate my IP using https://whatismyipaddress.com/, it returns with my ISP's IP.

However using SEAMONKEY (2.49.4) with my VPN connected, https://whatismyipaddress.com/ reports the IP of the VPN host as expected.

Any idea why this is so ? Regards, BRIAN

PS I use SEAMONKEY for my security cameras. It appears to be the only browser still supporting HIKVISION cameras.

Hi Brian, I wonder why Firefox requests would not be using your VPN. Could you look at your proxy settings:

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the search box at the top of the page, type proxy and Firefox should filter to the "Settings" button, which you can click.

The default of "Use system proxy settings" should piggybacks on your Windows/IE "LAN" setting where I assume the VPN plugs in. If that isn't working, you could experiment with the other settings to see whether any work better.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I did as instructed and tried "Use system proxy settings" and all the other choices too, with the same result.

Should I reload the browser software and see i f that fixes it ?

BRIAN
