I have a question about the same topic of this older thread here -

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1257189

...when you do some of the solutions to this problem the copy-and-paste from either the vertical column or in Bookmarks manager it will copy the whole URL code as the title of the link and not what you renamed that link or its default name from its creator.

Is there a way to copy-and-paste the bookmarks WITH the already-created link names attached from the previous Firefox / Waterfox browser?

You can do a copy and paste of selected bookmarks to an HTML capable editor and save this to an HTML file, then you can import this file and move them to the destination folder.

Hello, I can't use sync because the old HTML file is messed up with tons of duplicates. It's the sync which has actually screwed it up. So I have to turn off sync and use it with no profile.

@cor-el what is an example of a HTML capable editor are you talking about some 3rd-party program that I can use in specific folder transfers and create HTML's per folder? This would be a viable option if so.

You can possibly do this in Firefox by opening a new, blank, tab and switch the page to contentEditable mode by invoking the JavaScript bookmarklet posted below (contentEditable: true). If you click in the page, then you should see a cursor. You can right-click a bookmarks folder and click Copy to copy the bookmarks in this folder to the clipboard. Then you can paste this content in the blank webpage you opened via the above posted steps. Once you see the bookmarks listed on the page, then invoke the bookmarklet another time to disable content editable mode (contentEditable: false). If you now hover a link, then you should the linked address at the bottom of the window like usually happens. You can right-click the page and use "Save Page As" to save this page as an HTML file.

You can create a new bookmark on the Bookmarks Toolbar and paste the JavaScript code in its URL field where you would normally enter the address of the website.

javascript:document.body.contentEditable=document.body.contentEditable=='true'?'false':'true';void(alert('contentEditable: '+document.body.contentEditable))

okay, thank you, this is good advice, but I didn't quite make it all the way there. when I save it, it saves not the weblinks but the instruction page? I attached it here, did I miss a step?

You must do this on a blank website (about:blank) and not on a page like this forum.

hello a user on another forum came up with a Firefox extension that works perfectly:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bookmark-branch-porter

this extension works perfectly and does exactly what I'm looking for. It saves the link titles, the subfolders in folders (only if links are in them, empty subfolders are not saved, no big deal) and it's easy to use and migrate. It's almost a perfect solution.

@cor-el you were providing me some good advice, I saw that your way was onto to something to solve it but the extension seemed like an easy-fix, seamless way to accomplish the same.
