Hi, I have several email accounts, and Server Settings are set to Check for and Automatically download new messages are set to 60 minutes, but it does NOT happen. When I click on Get Messages I get several hundreds of emails up to 8-10 hours old. Any suggestion to fix it?

Can you confirm that you have computer running - not in Sleep mode etc and Thunderbird open and running for longer than an hour?

Can you confirm you are in 'online' mode and not 'offline' mode? Can you confirm you are connected to the internet all the time?

Are all your mail accounts POP ?

Do you have all three of these selected for each account. Tools > Account Settings > server settings for mail account

  • 'check for new messages at start up'
  • 'check for new messages every 60 minutes'
  • 'Automatically download new messages'

Hi Toad-Hall, Thank you for your message, I can say YES to all your questions! Anything else I can do?

In Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings for pop mail account re : 'Authentication method: What is selected? eg: Normal Password or Kerberos/GSSAPI  ?

I have the same problem. Like Froggy, I have settings to:

'check for new messages at start up'
'check for new messages every 10 minutes'
   'Automatically download new messages'

I previously had problems getting any messages from a pop server. Now I can receive messages, but only when I explicitly ask it to (Get Messages, then my email address). My password is set to Encrypted Password. I get the same result if I set it to insecure. My server does not support Kerberos/GSSAPI.

Have you set up the Pop mail account to use 'Global inbox' Local Folders ? If yes: Please check to see if you have selected the following: right click on 'Local Folders' and select 'Settings'

select the pop mail account 'Server Settings' click on 'Advanced' button You will see you have selected: 'Inbox for different account Global Inbox Local Folders'

check you have also selected: 'Include this server when getting new mail' click on 'OK' Click on 'OK' to save and close Account Settings.

Restart Thunderbird. Report back on whether it is now checking for new mail on startup and also checking after 10 minutes.

Solved.

It now works as it did before, downloading messages on load and every 10 minutes. I hope that this works for Froggy as well, though he has not replied to the earlier suggestion.
