What is the "local folders" account?
Besides this, I have six pop accounts in the one Thunderbird program on my computer and have never had anything in "local folders;" I also haven't set it up for anything as I have no idea what it would be used for. Thank you in advance.

The local folders "account" is Thunderbird local on disk storage. It is exactly what the name implies somewhere you can store mail permanently that is local and the mail will still be there when you remove the account it came in on. Unlike any other location.
The mail will also only exist on the local hard disk so certain obligations come with it's use to back up your data.
