How can I use DIVX or another player to view Flash movies instead of using an Adobe product?

My understanding is that is can be done on windows (w7/64bit). Main goals are for embedded videos on sites such as FB, Youtube and Vimeo.

I was basically ok with Flash, but I like the idea of open-standards products better. FireFox has disabled the Flash player. Why? It's listed as vulnerable which means there is definitely an exploit but what?

I'd like another player because I've had it with Adobe. I've spent hours and hours trying to get Shockwave & Flash to work after recent updates in those programs. I tested them out in Google Chrome, and still problems although fewer than in FF.

What is going on with these products? Everytime I run an update of FF or Shockwave/Flash, everything gets screwed up!!
