I just want location bar to search in my default search engine, I don't want any other features, especially "switch to tab". Since this came up it messed up my location bar usage completely when I have other tabs open.

Thanks.

Hello, jmss!

  1. Go into the menu (three-bar icon in the upper-right corner, and select "Preferences".
  2. Click on the "Privacy" tab, and at the bottom change the "When using the location bar, suggest:" to "Nothing".

That should do it.

If you open the same URL in more than one tab then you may have the "Switch to tab" feature preventing that. Hold down the Alt or Shift key while an entry in the drop down list is highlighted to disable "Switch to tab" and see the URL of all entries instead.

  • Alt + Enter opens the highlighted URL in a new tab.
  • Shift + Enter opens the highlighted URL in the current tab.
  • Cursor Right copies the highlighted URL to the location bar in case you want to edit it.
