I had to change the password of my email account because it had been hacked. Now I can receive mail, but I cannot send it because Thunderbird uses the old password (I guess) and offers no possibility to change it to the new one. It just keeps trying to send the email.

Go to Tools > Options > Security > Password > Saved Passwords… and remove the old ones for your outgoing server (SMTP). Then try again and Thunderbird should prompt for the password,

Thunderbird will prompt you for a password when one is needed.

Thank you Christ for answering. As I see this it is only half true. Receiving emails Thunderbird reports a failure and offers the possibility to change my password. But when trying to send an email it just keeps trying: it does not report anything, it does not ask, it does not deliver. What can I do?
