On Mac, this most commonly seems to be caused by Spigot or Conduit add-ons, or something else that snuck in undetected with some other software you downloaded.

Please try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Cmd+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or remove). Especially if you find something called SearchMe.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Does that help you regain control?

I have run through several help scenarios half a dozen times. I have gone into config made necessary changes. Eliminated all but Google as search engine After reboot Yahoo comes back as search with new tab and comes back as default search engine. I like Firefox browser but with google search. Since installation of Win 10 and Firefox update this problem has persisted. Solution: Switch to chrome, transfer your info and the problem goes away.

So much for Firefox support

Hi rgtoth, it looks like you haven't posted your own question or asked for assistance about this before. If you're ready to give up, that's fine, but Firefox is designed to let you choose your preferred search engine, home page, and new tab page and remember those settings permanently. If you fall out of love with Chrome, try us again for the first time and we'll do our best to fix you up.
