Hello,

I am posting this using IE as my browser. But my main browser is FF.

I cannot open FF as it says that my profile is corrupted or deleted. I had a browser hijack (MySearchDial) a month or so ago and proceeded to remove the malware according to the methods suggested by the various help sources.

However, even after removal, as directed, my AV - HitmanPro - kept detecting MySearchDial as a threat to my system. Every day I would follow the HitmanPro suggestions but these "threats" would reappear the next day again and I would repeat the procedure. I contacted Hitman support and I was given the following procedure :

Please open Windows Explorer and go to this folder: C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\7ywjmwze.default\

Do you see the file 'prefs.js' there? If yes, please remove it manually.

Reboot your computer and scan again with HitmanPro.

I cannot remember rightly, but I may have deleted the "7ywj ... " file.

I have screen shots of what I have now but I know I have a different file containing the "7ywj ... " code in it which was not there before.

At any rate, since tis morning when I carried out this procedure, I cannot access FF. I have no problem uninstallin FF and doing a complete reinstall, however I want to recover my bookmarks that I had and want to kow where these would be stored. If I can recover these, I will then uninstall, reinstall and replace the file I will have saved earlier.

I thank you for your help.

Best regards

If you have a system checkpoint saved, you might be able to recover the profile, and therefore the bookmarks, but if not, and if you did not make a backup copy of the bookmarks outside the profile, then you are out of luck. From your screenshots, what you removed was the whole profile.

You would have to use an undelete utility if you removed the default Firefox profile folder and didn't create a backup of your personal data.
