This began after Microsoft Updates for Windows 7 Pro 64-bit last Tuesday. I have the current version of Firefox, all add-ons are compatibile. And, the problem occurs even if I run in safe mode with add-ins disabled. There are two plug-ins for Microsoft Office 2010 ( 14.0.4730.1010 and 14.0.4766.1000 ) that I am not sure how to see if they are current, they were last updated in 2010. Is this where the problem lies, and if so how do I update them. Only one appears in the update list and it is shown as "unknown".

I have identified the cause of this problem. Spybot S &D 2 Beta was installed on this machine, and it was the culprit. I have informed the vendor, and replaced it with production version 162 of Spybot S &D. The problem is no longer present.
