Outlook shows email in the spam folder but these email are not shown anywhere in thunderbird

Chosen solution

POP mail is simply a mechanism to download to the local computer the inbox.

IMAP is a synchronized mail that synchronizes mail in the server in folder with a local client.

My guess is you have correctly identified the Thunderbird account as POP, it was alll Hotmail supplied into a year or two ago, so if you have had the account setup for a number of years then it will almost certainly be POP.

You can set the account up again as and IMAP account in Thunderbird and get all your folders synchronized.

On the toolbar > Hover your mouse over the New Message entry until another menu appears > Existing mail account

Follow the wizards prompts to add the account again. Post back before deleting your old account as that may cause loss of mail if not done correctly, depending on how it is set up.

What is the account type for both, Outlook and Thunderbird - POP or IMAP?

I am not real clever on these things but I think that Thunderbird is POP and Outlook is IMAP
