Thunderbird.net and download and install. IT should just upgrade your setup. If not post back..we might have to force the profile to be used.

Connection refused often means problems with the provider. Can you access web mail?

When I download from Thunderbird.net I get Thunderbird for Windows 8. Then it is not possible to troubleshoot for Windows 10. I have made several checks with my broadband provider and confirmed that it is not a provider problem. I came to the conclusion that it is a Windows 10 compatibility problem. How can I get Thunderbird for Windows 10?

There is no special version just for Windows 8 or Windows 10. Thunderbird works on version Windows 7 and later - meaning 7, 8, 10, 11 As you can see from these release notes: https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/91.10.0/releasenotes/

Perhaps you are refering to the two types offered: Thunderbird comes in either 'Windows 32bit' or 'Windows 64 bit' for Windows OS.

re :Could not connect to server pop3.nowmail.co.nz connection refused"

It is likely that has nothing to do with what version of Thunderbrd you are using, if you are up to date.

Please post the following information: Menu app icon > Help > More Troubleshooting Information Locate the 'Mail and News Accounts' section Copy all the information in that section and post it into this forum question as then we can see if all the settings are correct.

It looks like nowmail are still operating in the dark ages and only offer insecure access.

  • incoming server name: pop3.nowmail.co.nz
  • Port 110
  • Connection Security: None
  • Authentication Method: Normal password transmitted insecurely

Password is the same password you use to access webmail account via a browser Username : Everything before the @nowmail.co.nz part of your email address - according to website although most want full email address.

  • Outgoing server name: smtp.nowmail.co.nz
  • Port 25 (or port 2525)
  • Connection Security: None
  • Authentication Method: Normal password transmitted insecurely

Password is the same password you use to access webmail account via a browser Username : Everything before the @nowmail.co.nz part of your email address - according to website although most want full email address.

1. Establish the password really works. Are you able to logon to your webmail account via a browser? Please check this as it will prove the password works. If you cannot access with that password then you will need to use the Forgotten Password option on logon webpage and follow instructions to get access to account and reset the password.

Then update the stored password in Thunderbird.

2. In Firewall - has Thunderbird been set up as an allowed program? Make sure Thunderbird is set up as an allowed program. The Firewall might be the default one supplied in OS or may be be part of the Anti-Virus program you installed. Confirm Thunderbird is set up as allowed program.

I have downloaded Thunderbird English(British) Windows 64-BIT

Here is the section you asked me to post: Mail and News Accounts ID Incoming server Outgoing servers Name Connection security Authentication method Name Connection security Authentication method Default? account2 (none) Local Folders None Normal password account3 (pop3) pop3.nowmail.co.nz:110 None Normal password smtp.nowmail.co.nz:25 None Normal password true

The password works and I can log on to my webmail account.

It's been a while but I'm wondering if server is refusing because of TLS version accessed by server. As server settings are not even offering a secure mode then I'm thinking is the server still using old TLS.

In Menu app icon > Preferences > General Scroll forever to the bottom and click on 'Config Editor' accept the risk In search type: tls.version look for this line : security.tls.version.min Double click on line to open an edit window and enter the number 2 - see note below. click on OK. Exit window - top right x

Note: security.tls.version.min value meaning. To force : TLS 1.0 value= 1 - if '2' does not work then try 1 as last resort. TLS 1.1 value= 2 - Try this level first TLS 1.2 value= 3 - This is set by default

Some people found that they could use security.tls.version.min set to 3, BUT to make sending of emails work they had to change this setting: security.tls.version.enable-deprecated, set value to 'True'.

Finally, Restart Thunderbird.
