FF 20, why are the toolbars too big and the toolbar font too small?

A few days ago I opened Firefox and instead of the usual tabs and tool bars, the tool bars were three times larger and the toolbar fonts were twice as small. I looked for any possible reason why the fonts/tool bars were changed, I reset windows to Classic and then back to XP themes to see if there was a font problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest Firefox. No change. Internet Explorer looks correct as do the programs I'm running so I believe I have isolated it to Firefox. Screen shots available.

Are you using a custom theme?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Problem solved!!!! Turns out many of the original Windows fonts were somehow missing. I was able to extract the original fonts from the Windows XP installation disc, instal them to the Fonts folder, and this not only corrected the Firefox problem but also a problem in Microsoft Office.
