Hi there,

I have recently updated my Firefox from version 12 to version 13. To do so I have downloaded the package from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/13.0/linux-x86_64/en-US/ unzipped it, became root, copied the resulting tar file to /opt/, tared the existing directory together and then untared the tar copied before. This procedure works perfect for me and works around all the other issues with CentOS being not really able to do a proper update in a timely manner and Firefox being unable to find the correct version of Firefox for Linux. Usually the automatic update on the about page and also any try do get the package from the homepage will download the 32 Bit version. I have the 64 Bit version is installed. Although almost any file/directory now shows a date of 1st of June, Firefox still reports Version 12 and wants to update itself.

Are you sure that you started the Firefox 13 version and not the version from your Linux distribution?

If the other Firefox version is running then you usually start another instance (window) in the already running Firefox version.

#!/bin/sh

cd path_to_firefox13
./firefox

Yes I am as there is no Firefox version. I was not too happy with the support from CentOS so I decided to update FF manually. I have tried to run it via the link on the desktop (which has not changed) and via command line, same result. Where is it getting the version number from? I maybe can check it there.

Thanks anyway StSch

The System Monitor should show the file path of the Firefox process.
