why won't firefox open a hot link in a new tab? I have selected the setting that is supposed to do this, but Firefox insists upon opening a new window, every time! It's annoying as hell.

OK...ummmm, I'm running Mac OS10.4.11 (not so sure about the last two digits, but you get the idea). I installed the latest Firefox update maybe a week ago... my monitor crapped out yesterday, so I replaced it with a bigger one that I had lying around. I have used this monitor with this machine before, and had no problems with getting Firefox to open links that I clicked on in a new tab. As per your Help site, I checked the monitor's 'size' and it was as always. I even reduced the 'size' of the monitor, but no joy.

What gives, oh Mighty One?

Solution choisie

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Thanks, cor-el!

I started in safe mode, un-checked and re-checked the appropriate box under preferences/tabs.

That's it.

I quit safe mode and restarted, and it still works fine.

THANKS!
