Facebook and Hotmail cannot be accessed using Firefox unless Nokia USB Media Server (NclUSBSrv.exe) is allowed access to the internet

The login page of Facebook loads. I enter my details and click login. The Sygate Personal Firewall warning appears saying Firefox is trying to access the internet this was initiated by NclUSBSrv.exe (Nokia USB Media Server). I block this as I don't want Nokia USB Media Server accessing the internet, so the connection times out and I can't access Facebook. This also happends for Hotmail. If I unblock NclUSBSrv.exe then access is allowed. Internet Explorer accesses both Facebook and Hotmail with NclUSBSrv.exe blocked.

So my question is, why does Firefox need Nokia USB Media server to access the internet in order to login to facebook and hotmail? This sounds suspiciously like something is trying to steal my passwords.

By the way I've now switched back to IE because I'm fed up with the nonsense I'm getting from Firefox. It used to be so simple and fast now its just full of bugs and no answers.

Here's Nokia's explanation:

  • Nokia USB Media Server. Background program which is started by the Nokia PC Suite and whose role is to enable the PC Suite to synchronize with your Nokia phone through a USB cable.

That being the case, I would imagine that the app must have a setting somewhere to prevent that happening. Maybe you can find out how on the Nokia PC Suite site.

Thanks people, the clean re-install seems to have stopped Nokia USB Media Server from interfering with facebook and hotmail.

Still have the problem in my other question though, about Firefox not automatically presenting the dial screen when it is launched.
