Try doing it this way.

  1. Use IE8 to download a fresh copy of Firefox from Download Firefox 4.0 and save it to your desktop.
  2. Go to Add/Remove Programs and remove Mozilla Firefox choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc.
  3. Reboot and then delete Mozilla Firefox folder at this location: C:\Programs Files\Mozilla Firefox.
  4. Finally, run the installation file you downloaded to your desktop earlier.

Of course, is better to scan the computer with Malwarebytes' Anti Malware and SUPERAntispyare, then clean it with CCleaner and finally install FF4.0.

Contrary to what cloverleaf is suggesting, I would refrain from using a registry cleaner (CCleaner) at this troubleshooting stage: you may do more harm than good.

Thanks, all, for your help. I went to the Program files on the OS and deleted it from there. Then deleted it from the control panel software list. It is finally gone. I have already had my fill of register cleaners. Microsoft says they are snake oil. Anyway, Mozilla is gone and when I download it will be to my desktop. // JC
