I have an Acer one notebook with OS Linux Linpus. Firefox is delivered in version 2.0.0.3. I can find a way to unpgrade to version 3.6, downloading does not work (won't install). Add-ons give problems etc., so I cannot browse properly. When using Firefox for the first time (after reinstallation of the OS) I get no connection to http://nl.www.mozilla.com/nl/firefox/2.0.0.14/firstrun/ So i'm stuck.

Linux Linpus probably doesn't meet the System Requirements for running a newer version of Firefox.

The GTK package is probably too old for a Firefox 3+ version to work. You can update the "packages" that are outdated, but if you aren't familiar with command line scripts for installing software, and don't know where the newer packages are located on the internet - you are better off installing a more modern Operating System than Linpus. It looks like Linpus hasn't released a new version for netbooks since 2008, and has now switched to releasing a "Tablet" operating system - moving beyond netbooks with 1.4-lite MeeGo.

I had a similar situation with a EeePC and Xandros Linux awhile ago, and my solution was to install an Ubuntu derived distro called EasyPeasy (originally called EeeUbuntu) that came with Firefox 3.6.

Ubuntu also has a version named Netbook Edition now.
