In the previous versions of Thunderbird you could tag an email while it was open and you were reading it. That was often a convenience. In the current version it seems that you can only tag the email when you are looking at the inbox. Is there any chance that the previous functionality might be restored?

I put that feature on the unified tool bar and it works well.

The tag function is under the More button in the Header Pane (see picture). Or, just apply the tag by pressing 1,2 3,...
