When i use a link to an Excel Workbook stored in a GitHub repo the downloaded file is only 6 Bytes - and consequently rubbish. When I do exactly the same thing with Edge or with FireFox or Edge on another computer the downloaded file is complete. I've cleaned up FireFox but it didn't help.

I've taken the shortcut de- and re-installing FireFox and that solved the problem. I will now check carefully which of the options, add-ons, etc. may have caused the problem. Thanks fpr your support. Just in case I find out the cause of the problem I will reply it.

I should add that the download works fine on my computer with Edge.

It is possible that (anti-virus) security software is causing the problem. Try to disable security software temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or if userChrome.css/userContent.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the Default System theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window
