New Problem: Cannot "View Image" on Some Websites

more options

I sometimes like to view the images of a web page in a separate tab, so I select view image, like so:

https://user-media-prod-cdn.itsre-sumo.mozilla.net/uploads/images/2020-07-29-14-39-05-a87263.png

And normally it opens a new tab with just the image.

But just within the past couple of weeks, many times now, it doesn't do that. Instead it shows me this:

https://user-media-prod-cdn.itsre-sumo.mozilla.net/uploads/images/2020-07-29-14-39-49-30b270.png

And no matter which option I select, it goes through a loop of just showing me the same dialong box over and over.

I will open the same web page in Chrome, Edge, Opera, Waterfox--no problem. Image opens up on a new tab. Only in Firefox is this happening.

Known issue?

Did you modify a setting related to webP images? You can check here:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste webp and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the image.webp.enabled preference is bolded and has a value of false, double-click it to restore the default value of true

I realize the file name in the dialog ends with .jpg, but servers are saving bandwidth by compressing .png and .jpg images to .webP on the fly. And by default, they have that "Chrome HTML document" description.

To discourage servers from sending Firefox webP images, you can try my add-on:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/dont-accept-webp/

Any improvement?
