I have no little box at end of the opened tab which opens a new tab

I wish to open a new tab, with no little box at the end of the existing tabs, I have to open options and hit new tab, I would like to restore the little box but "restore to options" does nothing there is no enter button on the option page and I dont know it has done anything, it does nothing as far as i can see.

Open Customize then use the Restore Defaults at the bottom to the right of center.

This does not work! tried it, can not see anything happening there is no "GO" button or other way of knowing if anything is happening.
