My wife and I have different gmail accounts. We are heading to Africa and will only have one laptop. I want to be able to keep both emails going at the same time as we both have different friends and family. I don't want to have to sign out of one account to open the other account. Suggestions?

There are add-ons that can help with this. I have never used any of these, but any of these should be able to do what you want:
