Hi Skurg32,

GCM is google's cloud messaging. It's a push notification service provided by google. So when you see a message drop down from your address bar saying something like "allow this website to send notifications" and you accept, the site would send notifications via the GCM service and it can do that even if the website itself isn't currently loaded.

Can be pretty useful, or pretty annoying! But it's pretty easy to disable it or control which sites can use this whenever you want to. Here's a link that gives some in depth info on it:
