Thunderbird version 60.7.0, I've got 5 profiles. I've looked through past questions and "answers" that claim to solve the issue with no success. It seems it's been an issue since at least version 24.x

I want to be able to delete "collected addresses" and make changes to other saved contacts that stick, as in, they don't revert to errors randomly.

Sometimes I'll delete the address from "collected addresses" and it won't reappear next time, great, sometimes it reappears immediately. Sometimes I modify a saved email and it saves correctly, other times it does not.

I've uninstalled and re-installed but it kept the same faulty saved data. Can I just wipe all addresses and start over, it would be easier at this point. Is there a solution to this, an add-on that manages this correctly etc.?

I have turned off "automatically add outgoing e-mail addresses to my" as I don't want to introduce more errors.

I ended up "solving" by deleting all my accounts, deleting the local file backups, deleting the add-ons, uninstalling thunderbird, searching my pc for any trace of anything related and deleting it. Rebooting and re-installing everything 1 step at a time, making sure no broken address book re-appeared between each step.

Now I've turned off "collected addresses" again and this is the only way I could "fix" this that worked reliably.

Did you try rebuilding the address books, abook.mab (Personal Address Book) and history.mab (Collected Addresses)?

These instructions are unclear as they do not reflect the headings/tabs of the current version.

But yes, I tried doing this with no success.

What part of the instructions do not work in TB 60 and your version of Windows, 8.1? If you don't care about keeping contacts in the current address books, simply delete abook.mab and history.mab from the profile folder while TB is closed.

There's not address book called "PAB" or "Personal Address Book", there are "GAL", "Recipient List", and about 12 others, which I didn't want or try to create, a bunch of which are empty.

The instructions refer to a pathway of clicking on tabs/options/headers which have changed or are not named the same anymore (which can be figured out nonetheless)

I delete the abook.mab and history.mab yet everything remains the same.

The offending addresses, namely an email for a lab I asked for a quote from once 2 years ago, and an email for my boss which has a spelling mistake, appear in no address books, including "collected addresses" yet appear as suggestions when I start typing an email address in a new message.

These are all minor annoyances, but they do reduce my productivity as I constantly have to keep an eye out for errors in email recipients.

Every TB installation has Personal Address Book and Collected Addresses. If you have other address books, they are represented by .mab files with names other than abook.mab and history.mab.

The autocomplete routine scans all address books by default, so if you find that an obsolete contact appears in the results when you address a message, it is listed in one of the address books. However, deleting it may have no effect if the underlying address book is corrupted, which is the purpose of rebuilding the address books.

Some profiles are exchange accounts, with exquilla addon.

Does this change anything.

I see no address book named "Personal Address Book" or "PAB"

I'm not aware that ExQuilla affects the default address books. If you create a new profile with Profile Manager, you will see Personal Address Book. To start PM, close TB, Winkey+R and type thunderbird.exe -p
