On my old computer, when I clicked on a link using the mouse wheel, it would open it in a new tab. However, I just got my new computer, and this doesnt work any more. And YES, I am using the default theme, tried in Safe Mode, and restarted. I seem to remember a option somewhere to enable this, however this was in an old Firefox, before the last big update.

Check the corresponding pref in advanced configuration:

  1. Type about:config in the address bar and enter
  2. Accept the warning
  3. Find the pref browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick. If the value is false, double-click on it to change to true
  4. Do the same thing for middlemouse.openNewWindow
  5. Close the tab about:config
