When I click on download for firefox for desk top nothing happens. Its like windows won't allow me to download anything. I get the same reaction when I try to download adobe flash player and google chrome.

It is possible that anti-virus software is corrupting downloaded files or is interfering otherwise.

Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.
