The saved password does not display in the password section until you have typed your username for the account.

You can delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js and user.js files to reset all prefs to the default value or, in case you know which you have changed in the past, reset these prefs to the default value via the right-click context menu on the about:config page or edit the prefs.js file and remove related line(s).

Do you mean that you do not see the bullet placeholder when you enter a password?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

It is now working much better, but only on some sites. Is this normal?

Where did it started working and in what way are some websites still not working?

Doesn't work on some banks, Medicare etc.

Note that Firefox won't fill the name and password when the website is using autocomplete=off, even when you previously have saved the password by using a bookmarklet or via other means.
