You can try these steps in case of issues with webpages:

You can reload webpage(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Settings).

Thank you for the replies. What I have found: If I type in an address i.e. http:\\www.xxxx Firefox automatically changes it to https:\\www.xxx. It appears that some web sites do not like the https. In the privacy settings I have checked 'do not use https only' but it still appears regardless of what I type. Is there some other place that controls whether or not https/http is used?

Some servers send a response header to upgrade the connection automatically to secure HTTPS and some might be on the HSTS preload list. Also is Firefox notices that the server has a valid certificate then Firefox might switch to secure HTTPS. You can check the latter via "Page Info -> Security" and in the Network Monitor.

Can you post a link to a publicly accessible page (i.e. no authentication or signing on required) of servers that only work with HTTP and where Firefox insists in using HTTPS?
