I use Thunderbird 60.3.3 (32 bits) During cleaning/ordering (in Polish version "Porządkuj") my Inbox folder, I lost all messages. The "good" news is that I saved 191MB ;-) I have a lot of lost messages on the server, but I can not "download" them again to Thunderbird. Any help - please. Regards

Do the following to get a fresh download of everything in the webmail Inbox downloaded into the Pop inbox.

In Thunderbird

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • click on 'Open folder' button

A new window opens showing the contents of your 'profile name' account.

  • Exit Thunderbird now - this is important.
  • click on 'Mail' folder
  • click on the pop mail account name
  • locate and delete this file : popstate.dat

Start Thunderbird A new 'popstate.dat' file will be created. All emails that are currently in the webmail account Inbox should get downloaded again.

Sometimes it may take more than a day to get everything downloaded if there is a limit on number of mails that can be downloaded in a given period.

Delete all the duplicate emails. Empty the 'Deleted' folder Move all good emails into suitable folders for storage. finally right click on 'Inbox' and select 'compact' to remove those marked as deleted emails and give you a clean 'Inbox'.

Thank you for help me. Thanks to your instructions, I downloaded mails from the server. My problem starts from "compact" inbox folder, so I do not recommend this solution. I lost all messages from Inbox during "compact", and only some of them remained on the server. But I have them once again in Thunderbird.

Thank you & Regards

Compacting is vital. If you do not compact folders on a regular basis then problems can start to occur.

If you lost messages immediately following compacting then the file was corrupt. This can occur if you do not compact regularly or if another program has tried to fix that file like an Anti-virus product.

I strongly recommend you move all good emails out of the Inbox into other suitable folders for storage and organising. delete any you do not want. When Inbox is completely empty, compact the Inbox folder, so it is a completely clean Inbox. I also advise that your do not allow Anti-Virus to scan any Thunderbird folder on startup or scan incoming email.

Thank You. Probably the file was corrupt. Merry Christmas
