My Thunderbird has recently automatically updated to V115.3.1 but remains 32 bit. When I go to the Thunderbird download page there doesn't appear to be a choice of version.

I came across this message from March 2022 -

"I read at AskLeo that I could use Thunderbird with Gmail as a way to backup my Gmail emails to my computer. I then want to backup the Thunderbird folder using a backup program to save the emails to an external drive.

On Windows 10 Home, where do I find the emails that Thunderbird is downloading from Gmail? I recently installed Thunderbird 102.1.0 (64-bit) using IMAP and OAuth2 authentication. "

which describes my problem well.

The answer relates to Windows 10, but I am using Linux Mint. I think I installed Thunderbird flatpack version but I cannot find the profile to backup and although I think all my emails (around 25,000) were downloaded from gmail, I cannot find them and so cannot take a backup.

My Thunderbird was upgraded to 115 automatically, and now I can't see any emails (old and new). Just a blank page. I don't have a backup. How can I resolve this issue? Tried the troubleshooting mode, but didn't help. I've been using TB since 2006, and have thousands of emails in my profile, so can't just create a new profile.

Profile Made With 32-bit Thunderbird On A Detachable Hard Drive Is Not Directly Useable On 64-bit Versions

I keep my profile on a detachable USD hard drive so I can use Thunderbird on my laptop when I travel just as I do on my desktop. Thunderbird on both of these computers is the 32-bit version and kept up to date (version 115.6.1). I know how to point Thunderbird to use the profile on the USB drive via the profiles.ini configuration. Recently, I bought a new desktop computer and downloaded Thunderbird from the download web page. UNBEKNOWNST TO ME it downloaded the 64-bit version without giving me a notice or a choice. I edited the profile.ini file to point to the profile on the USB drive and it did not work well. The calendars were disabled, no mail folders appeared and no email accounts appeared. My contacts were OK. So, I shut down the new desktop and I put the USB drive in my old desktop, ran the 32-bit Thunderbird and it now looked as dysfunctional as it did on 64-bit Thunderbird. Ooof. Dead in the water.

Fortunately I had a 2-month old backup and restored that profile after renaming the damaged profile folder on the USB hard drive. I then copied over the mail folders from the damaged folder to the restored profile folder so I would have all the latest mail. I also copied over any files in the main folder of the damaged profile that had not been changed by the 64-bit program on the new desktop computer. Fortunately, when I ran 32-bit Thunderbird, all my email from the last 2 months was there. Some recent calendar entries were missing and I had to redo the POP protocol for one of my 5 email accounts I manage with Thunderbird as I did a couple weeks ago. Yay! I immediately backed up the USB hard drive.

So, any clue why this happened? I am planning to make a test on the new desktop. I uninstalled the 64-bit version and installed the 32-bit version. I am going to restore the 32-bit profile folder from the backup to a USB stick with just the profile folder to see if it works as it does on my old desktop and laptop by just editing profile.ini (and installs.ini) as it is on those two systems.

Hi Everyone,

I used Thunderbird briefly a few years ago, then (for work reasons) switched to Outlook, and I uninstalled Thunderbird from my PC. Now I have retired and I want to try again with Thunderbird. So I downloaded the current version (115.6.1. 64-bit) and installed it. I find that it remembers my previous account settings, and over a thousand contact details, which I no longer need (or want) now that I have stopped working. It is also looking for work email accounts which no longer exist. I assume that Thunderbird archived all these data in a folder somewhere on my PC when I uninstalled it years ago. Now I would like to get rid of these settings, account details and contacts, and return Thunderbird to its out-of-the-box settings so that I can start again from scratch. Is there a quick and easy way to do this, without affecting any other systems on my PC?

Thanks all.

Thunderbird won't allow me to send messages after I upgraded from 31.8 to 78.14.0. The Send button is not enabled, though I do have an internet connection and have been able to receive messages. I'm pretty sure I gave the upgrade the correct email password (the same one I gave it yesterday when I installed 31.8, and which worked). Is there a way to troubleshoot or fix the problem?

I think I have a corrupt profile in Thunderbird. I would like to totally wipe the installation from my computer and start over.

When I uninstall using the built-in installer in Windows apps, some of the features are removed, but apparently not all, because when I re-download and reinstall, my old emails pop right back up. That tells me that info. about that installation is still lurking on my computer somewhere. I want a completely fresh installation that requires me to recreate my Thunderbird profile, etc. and requires me to re-link Thunderbird to my G-mail account.

Is there a way to accomplish this erasure?

Thanks a mil.

I am going to be setting up a new email address provided by a new ISP, and would like to migrate the email from the soon to be shutdown current email account to the new one. Is it as simple as changing the account settings of the current account to the new one or is it more involved than that? If so, can I migrate the existing email to the new account without any ties to the old email account remaining? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi,

I'd like to archive my recently passing family member hotmail account.

I setup Hotmail (using POP) with Thunderbird MacOSX already (with the hope that I can just backup the user profile to the cold storage).

The thing is, I cannot see the "SENT" folder locally.

I tried to create a new folder "SENT" and point the setting (Copies & Folders > place a copy in) to use that "SENT" folder, but after sync, nothing appears on that folder.

I saw a similar request raised (here), but in that scenario, the person is using IMAP; while I'm using POP.

Is there any setting that I missed?

Thanks

Hello,

I am using Thunderbird 115.6.1 (64-bit) desktop version. We have just been migrated to Microsoft 365 Exchange Online services. I have created a new account in Thunderbird with the settings given here:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/pop-imap-and-smtp-settings-for-outlook-com-d088b986-291d-42b8-9564-9c414e2aa040.

However, when I try to send an email it says that it can not log into the server. On my Iphone I also needed to create a new account in the Apple mail App and there things work fine. I would appreciate if there would be some help since it`s not only the functionalities of Thunderbird I really appreciate.

Thanks a lot!

Hi

My name is Ivo. I use Thunderbird for all my Email-Accounts. Now I wanted to add another one, which is info@ivo-zimmermann.ch, but it does not work (pls see screenshots in the attachment).

info@ivo-zimmermann.ch works fine when I login directly on Gmail, it also worked fine to login here into the mozilla support. Also all other accounts that I have (for example info@kanai-zimmermann.ch) were no problem to install.

Do you have an idea where the problem is?

Thank you in advance Ivo

Running up-to-date TB 115.6.0 (32-bit)

I have an older backup of WINMail ... a load of folders each with a number of eml files. I wish to import email only, not contacts etc.

I went to TB import tool ... but it does not have option for WINMail Did a bit of Googling .... it seems there are several approaches

1. One source says to install an addon - I went to look at ImportExportTools but it says it only works to TB ver 60

2. Another source says to roll back TB to old version of TB and then install import add / on

seems risky to remove current ver 115 60 is a long way back.

3. Another says to convert WINMail to Mbox then use standard import tool

4. Another - said simply create a blank folder and drag and drop eml files into it - tried and that does not work

What is simplest method that works  ? .

I just want everyone to know, I will NEVER again update Thunderbird. I do not like the constantly changing layouts. I do not like layouts changing without my consent or knowledge. You are NOT user friendly any more. While some may like your approach, I do not. Frankly it seems that most software is becoming less and less user friendly and more like, do it Thunderbird's way or else. I hope someday, someone will put out a simple email client similar to your older issues. Also, I do not like the continual nagging to update.

I have two different profiles on my computer. The one loads without a problem. The other one suddenly no longer loads any mails and no longer has any account information. It just starts with the wizard to create an account. The folder with the profile still exists, and TB points to the correct folder. Creating a new profile in the profile manager and pointing it to that folder results in the same: no mails or folders load and it starts the wizard to create an account. Launching in troubleshoot mode also has the same result. So, it looks like it can't access the information about the accounts. What can I do?

I have used Thunderbird for 12+ years. Now that we have AT&T as our new ISP, I have learned that AT&T doesn't provide an email address. I had no idea and I am frustrated. I also have Gmail, but I am not happy about trying to merge my large Gmail file with my 17 GB Thunderbird file. I worry about losing emails from years ago saved in Thunderbird and in Eudora before that! I assumed I would get an AT&T email and go on as before. Now what?

I suppose it wouldn't be the end of the world to use Gmail all the time. I hate its filing system which is why I want to keep using Thunderbird. I worry as both files are large. Can I really merge all this stuff and not lose my old emails?

I have three calendars that I use on one of Tbirds installed on one of my PCs. I can export two of them but not the third one. When I do the same with the other two, a dialog box opens where I can change or add the ICS file and its destination folder. If I try using Events and Tasks to export, the same thing happens. It is a mystery to me. Does anyone know of a fix for this? I am using Tbird 102.11.0 (64-bit) release.
