What happens to my existing Tab Groups?

When you update to Firefox 45, you will see a special tab explaining what has happened. All your tab groups will be bookmarked automatically and stored in the Bookmarks folder. You will be able to access them by clicking the Bookmarks button Bookmarks-29 in the toolbar. bookmarkedtabgroups

At that time, you will also be given the opportunity to restore background groups into separate windows if you wish.

Finally, we'll make a one-time backup of your tab groups data that will be stored in your profile folder. Add-ons may be able to use this data to recreate your Tab Groups.

What options will I have for organizing my tabs?

Got too many open tabs? Here are some great alternatives to tab groups. Choose the ones that work for you.

Sidebar

The Bookmarks sidebar is a great way to organize and access all your open tabs. You can drag open tabs into your sidebar and organize them with folders or separators. Your existing tab groups will also be moved here.

  1. To open the sidebar, click the menu button The image "new fx menu" does not exist., followed by Sidebars.
  2. Drag a tab into the sidebar to create a bookmark.
  3. Right-clickControl+click to create folders and separators to organize each group. Fill these folders or separators with pages by dragging an open tab or bookmark into each one.
  4. To open all tabs in a folder, Right-clickControl+click on the folder and select Open All in Tabs.

Pocket for Firefox

Pocket for Firefox lets you save and access web pages in just a click. Organize your saved pages into lists and access them on other devices. See Save web pages for later with Pocket for Firefox for more information.

Add-ons

There are add-ons you can install to manage your tabs. Visit the add-ons page and check the tabs category or search for tab tree to find available add-ons.

If you want direct replacements for the tab groups feature you can try out any of the following add-ons:

More add-ons will likely appear before Firefox 45 is released.

If you are experiencing problems with an add-on, please contact the add-on developer directly.
