This article applies only to Windows 10.
When you upgrade to Windows 10, you may inadvertently reset your default browser to Microsoft Edge. Follow these steps to change your default browser back to Firefox.

Use the Settings app to change your default browser

If you use the Firefox menu option to set it as the default, you may see the following error message: To change your default apps, go to Settings > System > Default apps. Click OK to close the window and follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Start menu and click the Settings icon.
  2. Click System, then choose Default Apps on the left pane.
  3. On the right, scroll down Web browser and click its entry.
  4. A dialog will open with a list of browsers. Scroll down to Other Options, where you'll see Firefox listed.
  5. Click Firefox.
  6. The Web browser section will now list Firefox as your default.
  7. Click the X to close the Settings window. Your changes will be saved automatically.

  2. On the Default Apps screen, scroll down to Web browser and click its entry. In this case, the icon will say either Microsoft Edge or Choose your default browser.

  3. In the Choose an app screen, scroll down to Other options, and click Firefox to set it as the default browser.

  4. Firefox is now listed as your default browser. Close the window to save your changes.
