What are extensions?
Extensions are Firefox add-ons that provide additional functionality to Firefox.
People all over the world have developed thousands of extensions for Firefox. There are extensions that allow you to block advertisements, download videos from websites, integrate more closely with websites like Facebook or Twitter, and add features you see in other browsers.
How to install extensions
Installing from the Add-ons window
- At the top of the Firefox windowOn the menu bar, click on the menu and select . The Add-ons window will appear.
- Select the panel.
- In the Get Add-ons panel, click in the Search All Add-ons box. Type something about the add-on you are looking for and press EnterReturn. Add-ons that match your search will appear in the list.
- If you would rather not search, click the Browse All Add-ons link to be taken to the Firefox Add-ons website.
- To get more details about any extension, select it, then click the Learn More link to be taken to a page with more information about the extension you've selected.
- To install an extension, click the . The Software Installation window will appear.
- If you are prompted with an End-User License Agreement, read the license and click if you agree with its terms and wish to proceed.
- When the
button becomes available, click on it. - After the extension downloads, click
to finish the installation. Firefox will restart and your new extension will be available.

Managing extensions
How to change extension settings
Some extensions have settings you can change from the Add-ons window's Extensions panel.
- In the Add-ons window, select the panel.
- Select the extension you want to edit.
- Click the button.
- If the button is not available, the extension does not offer settings to change.
Each extension will have different settings that can be changed. Right-clickHold down the control key while you click on an extension in the list and select to see if the extension's author has a website with documentation.
How to update extensions
- In the Add-ons window, select the panel.
- Click the button.
- If there were updates found, the panel will be selected.
- Click
. The updates will be downloaded. - Click to finish the updates. Firefox will restart and the selected extensions will be updated.
How to disable or uninstall extensions
If you select an extension in the Add-ons window's Disable or remove Add-ons.
