Extensions, themes, and plugins are all types of add-ons for Firefox. This article describes how to disable and remove add-ons in Firefox.

Disabling and removing extensions

Disabling extensions

Disabling an extension will turn it off without removing it.

  1. Click the menu button Fx89menuButton, click Add-ons and themes and select Extensions.
  2. Scroll through the list of extensions.
  3. Click the ellipsis (3-dot) icon for the corresponding extension and select Disable.the blue toggle for the corresponding extension.

To re-enable the extension, find it in the list of extensions and click the toggle for the corresponding extension. The toggle turns blue when enabled. , click the ellipsis (3-dot) icon and select Enable (restart Firefox if required).

Removing extensions

  1. Click the menu button Fx89menuButton, click Add-ons and themes and select Extensions.
  2. Scroll through the list of extensions.
  3. Click the ellipsis (3-dot) icon for the corresponding extension and select Remove.

Disabling and removing plugins

Support ended for all NPAPI plugins, except for Adobe Flash, in Firefox version 52. See this article for details.

Disabling plugins

Disabling a plugin will turn it off without removing it:

  1. Click the menu button Fx89menuButton, click Add-ons and themes and select Plugins.
  2. Scroll through the list of plugins.
  3. Click the ellipsis (3-dot) icon and select Never Activate from the drop-down menu for the corresponding extension.

To re-enable the plugin, find it in the list of Plugins, click the ellipsis (3-dot) icon and select Always Activate or Ask to Activate in the drop-down menu.

Note: The Flash plugin can no longer be set to "Always Activate" starting in Firefox version 69. For more information, see Why do I have to click to activate plugins? and this compatibility document.
