In my Firefox verzion 56.0.2 installed on a 64bit Windows 10 PC, there is an orange circle next to the icon for Downloads. Functionality hasn't been impacted, but, I can't seem to find an explanation for it. Please help. Thanks.

Thank you all for helping me find out about this "feature". I switched to the default theme, updated all extensions (none needed), started in Safe mode and did not click the "Refresh Firefox" button, downloaded a file and the orange circle hasn't appeared.

Pkshadow, where do I enable "Send info to Mozilla"? Also, the circle is not currently being displayed and I don't remember what happened when I moused over it. I'm not running Avast and I have no download manager.

cor-el, I can't seem to cause it to display at will.

Since I'm happily working with the latest Firefox, I don't think there is any problem since I've seem no abnormal behavior.

Thanks again for your support.

Please consider turning on send info to Mozilla before posting a question. This helps us help you. As I have no info from your system that would help see things that cause issues. This may have given me the solution without unneeded questions.

SO what happens when you put your mouse over it ? Does it display what it is ? Are you using any sort of download manager ? Have you installed a new Extension ?

Please copy/past to a new tab about:addons then enter. Is there any new Extensions listed that you do not know about ? There is a Gear Icon top right please click and Update Extensions.

Are you running Avast ? If so you can possibly turn this off in their program.

Note : Firefox 56.0.2 is current release https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ Full Version Installer Note : Firefox 57 Quantum release date Nov 14th https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/quantum/ Note : Legacy Extensions will be disabled and or removed.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Is there any text or number showing in that orange notification badge?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
