I would like to replace the default standard duckduckgo with the https/ssl version. That is not possible because the "remove" does not completely remove the default engine and it cannot be replaced by another version of the search engine,

Firefox should use a secure connection with all built-in search engines.

You can no longer make modifications to built-in search engines or add search engines globally via the searchengines folder in the Firefox program folder.

You can inspect the built-in default search engines by pasting this chrome URI in the location bar.

chrome://browser/locale/searchplugins/
chrome://browser/locale/searchplugins/ddg.xml

Thanks. The chrome URL was very helpful for inspecting ddg.xml.
