All bookmarks lost after upgrade. But even more problematic is that I can no longer save anything to the bookmarks toolbar OR bookmarks folder, nor is Firefox saving or loading any History even while I'm working. It's annoying enough to have to 'start' over with my bookmarks, as it won't seem to import my backup... But to not be able to create new one's or quickly go to a previous site from the navgation bar while I'm online is down right frustrating. To be more frank, it's really pissing me off.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

You can also try to repair the places database with this extension:

HEY!! Once I found my profile folder I found a corrupt places file... I tried the solution of replacing the places.s et al file with the 'corrupt' one and it totally worked!! Thank you much!! WHOOHOO!!
