I was using FF 5.0 with windows 98 with no problems. Then a message appeared to add an update. When I chose to add it FF stopped working. I uninstalled FF and I want to be able to download it again.

I'm afraid not for Fx5. I suspect Win 2000 has to be kept pretty lean, too.

To go back to 3.6.19 -

Later Addition Even Fx3 doesn't look promising -

Firefox 2.0.0.20 is the last ever version of Firefox for Win98 / SE / ME.
Get it from here:
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/rel.../en-US/

You can try KernelEx to get Firefox 3+ to work, but it would be very slow with an old PC of less than 750Mhz. http://sourceforge.net/projects/kernelex/

alan_r, the last to work on Win98 was Firefox 2.0.0.20 and for Win95 it was 1.5.0.12 as 2.0.0.* tended to freeze or crash upon Firefox startup.

Also for Win98 the last SeaMonkey version to work was 1.1.19 as it was on same Gecko as Fx 2.0.0.*
