I have the whole remember password set up done and no exceptions. Yet, many sites do not offer the option to remember the password. And on some that have they don't properly remember it. This is all since upgrading to v 4.0.1. All suggestions gratefully considered. Thank you.

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?

If Firefox doesn't offer to store passwords in the Password Manager then check that you aren't running Firefox in Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode.

Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie.

Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
