right now i am using a dsl service and i have no problems using firefox as my browser and thunderbird for my email. i want to discontinue the dsl and go to dial-up because of the cost. i need to know if firefox and thunderbird will work with dial-up and which dial-up service is the best to use?

I can't advise as to what dial-up provider is best (likely depends on your location).

Firefox and Thunderbird, indeed almost all network applications will work over dial-up as they do over DSL. You will just have a slower connection and load/download times, etc.
