I followed the instructions on migrating (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer) by copying the Thunderbird folder from XP to Win 10 Pro 64, and although the folder was big enough (2.66 G), when I open Thunderbird the account name appears, but there are no emails in it at all.

Open Help/Troubleshooting, about:profiles. What is the name of the current profile, and are there any other profiles listed? If the current profile is ...default-release, and another one is ...default, can you launch the ...default profile?

Looking at the profiles showed me the solution - there were several, and all I had to do was to choose the correct one. Thank you so much sfhowes for your quick (and correct) response.
