I've got a Googlemail account and have just set up a gmail account. When I try and add it to my thunderbird it gives me the error message - incoming server already exists. I appreciate why this is coming up - because of my existing googlemail account but is there any way to get past or around this to add my gmail account

"Googlemail" and "Gmail" are the same thing.

The error you are getting happens when you try to set up a second account using POP, using the same server.

It is strongly recommended to use IMAP instead. This is not an issue with IMAP.

When creating the account in Thunderbird, click the Manual Config button, then use the settings you see in the screenshot below (except, of course, using your own name, e-mail address, and password).

See this website for an explanation of IMAP vs POP. http://www.pop2imap.com/
