thunderbird send receive email fails, password error

This morning, I sent an email, and then noticed that Thunderbird was gone (it had crashed). I'm running SUSE Leap 43.1 and TBird 45.2

I decided to put on some Linux maint, and also decided to force update Thunderbird (using Yast2). I got some message, that I now can't find, that says I am running a beta version of Tbird. Yet the Help/About does not show such.

Ok, so I get Tbird started and I start looking at emails, and realize that TBird is not quite right. So I forced a fetch of email only to be told I have a password error. Ok, so I told it the password it is supposed to be using for it to fail again.

I now can't send/receive emails with Tbird. So I am using a Windows laptop where I can get to my email via a web browser so I can work with emails (I'll be able to do that with Linux shortly, but I'm quite pressed for time).

My email provider does not use security for passwords, so there is no encryption (don't bother, we've had this argument, it is yet another reason why I am trying to get the time to put up my own email server and move from them).

The question is, how do I do a trace within TBird to know the failure? I need to know if it is trying to do some handshake that is doomed to fail, and so send/receive doesn't work. TBird has been my email client of choice for many years and has been working just fine until this morning.

Please post your Troubleshooting Information. At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button , then select Help > Troubleshooting Information. Press the Copy text to clipboard button and paste the information into your reply.

Bottom line is TBird forgot the password for the primary email account. Once that was put back in, it forgot it again with the next reboot of Linux (required by a security patch to the kernel). I had forgotten that I had changed my password (I keep a network logbook, and note things like that and had forgotten to write that down).

I don't reboot Linux very often, it isn't like Winderz. (SUSE LEAP 42.1, not 43)). So, I'm thinking the next logoff (again a security patch issue) will cause the same problem (logoff will sent TERM to all running user threads/programs).

You need to tell Thunderbird to remember the password if you don't want to be prompted every time Thunderbird starts.

Since I can't find how to do this within TBird help (save a password), perhaps you would like to be a bit more specific?

BTW -- I have a bug open for this. It appears others recognize there is a problem in the "security area."

Hello I had the same problem this morning My connection is pop3 I go to Server Setting and (in TB) and try the different Security mode 1- With NONE no security : it is working 2- With STARTTLS (current mode) I had the issue 3- Then I try SSL / TLS and it works !
