My gmail account isn't getting current posts since December 2015

I have two email accounts in Thunderbird....[email address] is the primary and [email address] is the secondary....I hadn't opened/used Thunderbird since December, 2015 and when I went to use it today realized both accounts hadn't been getting emails posted to them....I think I managed to get my yahoo account fixed by using "get messages" but nothing seems to work with the gmail account.....also, I'm not sure the account is even working because the only place I access it is in Thunderbird. I wasn't able to send a message from it and changed my password, thinking I wasn't remembering it, but there still seems to be a problem with that. I'd like to be able to access the gmail account and bring it current.

As a first step I would forget Thunderbird and log in to your account via the Gmail website. Make sure that the password is correct and that you can send and receive mail (send a test message to yourself). Once you are sure the account is working OK you can try to get Thunderbird to manage it.
