Firefox 24 crashed in Open Directory 10.6.8 envoirement
Hello
We are using OS X 10.6.8 Clients und Server. The Firefox installed was Version 23. After the Update to 24 I wasn't able to start the network user, when I switch to the local user it works fine.
After downgrading to 23 and deleting the Mozilla in the Application Support Folder it works fine for both local as network users.
Is their any help for this problem. would a version 24.1 necessary to solve this problem?

I don't know whether is a big bug there, can you try a clean install of firefox.
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
- Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
- After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
- Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
- Windows:
- C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
- Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
- Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
- Windows:
- Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
- Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
- Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
Thank you.
Hello
I deleted the Firefox in the Applications folder. Also I deleted the Firefox Folder in the home directory, which is located in the Open Directory of the OS X Server 10.6.8
When I deleted Version 24 and replace it with 22 it works fine. I suppose it has something to do with the access priviliges of the home directory.
As I testet the local user have no problems with Version 24, only the OD Users have problems

Hello,
I am asking for more information.
1) I understand you removed the profile directory and downgraded from Firefox 24.x to 22.x. Did you try to update Firefox from 22.x to 24.x again after that?
2) You are using terms "local user" and "network user". How do I interpret them?
3) You are using the term "was unable to start a ... user". How do you "start" a user? Do you get an error message?
Hello
Some more details. 1) when I update the 22 to 24 with the update function, firefox ist not able to start. you see that the App is running (Dot in the Dock) but their will not open any windows. You need to force quit firefox
2) I see you are not familiar with Open Directory and Network Users on a OS X Server envoirement. A local user is on every mac in the user folder ~/user/ e.g. Macintosh HD/Users/administrator/ A network User has his home directory not on a local mac but on a File Server. He is able to start "his user" on every mac in the network (if he had the correct access priviliges) The System and the Applications are on the local mac and startet form theire but the home directory is on the OS X File Server The Network User folder is accessed with afp (afp://xserve.tazz.lan/Users) e.g. /Network/Servers/xserve.tazz.lan/Users/leabernhard
3) sorry for the confusion. I am able to both mount the local and network users. But when I start Firefox 24 on the network user nothing happened.
I got the following error, it looks like firefox isn't able to create a User Profile on the Network Volume.
04.10.13 20:45:59 /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox[591] stat on /Network/Servers/xserve.tazz.lan/Users/leabernhard/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/b2qcpt5f.default/sessionstore.js: No such file or directory

Thank you.
In network user, try starting Firefox with --no-remote switch, it might work. Please post the result.
I will look into the rest of the descriptions a bit later; I am about to head outside and will be back in the evening.

What you mean with "no-remote switch"

Mostly ignore the examples, you only need the --no-remote switch, not other switches.
Hello
Still not solved the problem.
It takes about 7 minutes before an empty windows opens. The Firefox.app crashed and is only to quit by a force-quit.
Here the actuell crashed thread of the firefox.app

(I had to short the reslt because of i excided 10000 characters)
After about 15 min the windows show the google startup screen but a serach give result, because firefox.app is still hanging
So I need to revert to version 22 which works fine with the Open Directory envoirement. For me it is OK to open Firefox with the Terminal but this is unexceptet by the normal users

I can also confirm it's a serious bug in Firefox 24 on Mac OS 10.8.5 with supplemental update using Open Directory Network Account users from OS 10.8.5 Server.
Note: These are new users who never ran Firefox 24 or any previous versions of Firefox since all new workstations and server was installed this past week or so.
When OD User runs Firefox 24, it just crashes and never fully launches. Application just does not respond and user would need to force quit the application.
I know it works fine with Local accounts on the workstations. At first i thought it might have been a corrupted preference.. tried throwing out all firefox related preferences but still same issue and it happens on all OD network accounts regardless of which workstation it is on. Serious bug that needs to be address. For now I'll have to have users use an older Firefox from what the original poster mentioned.
Also note: These are all new OD network accounts which means prefs are pretty clean along with new server software and workstations.

This is becoming a huge problem as school labs are updating to Firefox 24 and rendering Firefox useless. All users with home directories located on a network share point have this problem. Redirecting the profile to a local folder does not work well when the user is on a different computer each bell.
Since several of our web apps don't work with Safari (developers are windoze users) we are hoping for a fix from Firefox soon and or that Chrome will work.
What makes it even worse is when a user opens Firefox 24 on one machine, something in their Firefox profile gets broken and they cannot use any version of Firefox on any other machine without going through the whole process of throwing out sglite files and losing all their bookmarks, etc. I think I liked it better when Firefox updates were yearly rather than the every few months they have been on the last year.
For the record this is not only new Macs running 10.8.x. It goes all the way down to 10.4.x machines. I have several schools that are using 10.4 - 10.8 in different classrooms. One user used Firefox 24 on her new MacBook Pro and had problems, went to her student computers running 10.5.x and Firefox 16 and lost all her bookmarks, history, etc.

The problems seems related to incompatibilities between SQLite and network folders.
