the icon in the firefox folder and the desktop icon appear like file folders visually, and in properties they are listed as a folder type instead of an executable file. So when I click on my existing icon from either it takes me to an empty folder. How can I revert back to the icon being an .exe type of file?

That may mean that its a folder, not the program. Open your computers file explorer. Go to the Firefox folder in the Programs folder. Right click on Firefox.com and select Create Shortcut. Move the new shortcut to your desktop.

the file type used to be an exe file and worked fine before July... but now it appears as a folder... creating a shortcut just creates a shortcut to a file folder instead of to the exe file...
