my avast AV places a button below the tab bar. When I customize and drag it away, it always reappears next time I open browser. How do I permanently remove it?

I want to eliminate the Avast anti virus button that's on the left side of the bar below the tab bar. When I customize the bar, I can drag the button off the toolbar, but it always reappears after I close then reopen the browser.

Unfortunately, extensions do not have to accept your changes to their controls and may rudely put there where they want (sometimes even interfering with other extensions). Does avast! Online Security have any settings that let you control this? Either through that unwanted button or using its Options button on the Add-ons page?

Thanks for the comments. I checked, and Avast has a browser cleanup tool, but it does not recognize that button. That's all I could find. I had previously contacted the Avast cust. supt. line, and got some girl in Costa Rica. She was no help. Not only that, she wanted to delete my Symantec fax program, saying it was Symantec AV. Then she wanted to sell me a $179 maintenance program. Idiots...

I would try the Add-ons page inside Firefox. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. On the right, look for avast! Online Security. Does it have an Options button? Or you could disable the thing.
