My FF V. 25 is able to view an Axis IP camera that is java applet based. I have no java Add-ins or Extenstions.
My Axis IP camera uses “java” for viewing, but I do not have java installed. I can view the IP camera just fine. The Axis IP camera's Stream Profile is Motion JPEG and the Default Viewer is Java applet. When using IE, I am prompted my IE does not have java installed and cannot view the IP camera.
So my question is, how am I viewing an Axis IP camera with no java applet or JRE installed using FF? I can view YouTube videos just fine, and I thought YouTube used Java and/or Flash. I do have shockwave flash installed.
I have no Java Add-ons or Extensions installed.
I’m trying to stay Java Free. I do not use IE.

Current Firefox versions can handle H.264 streams with the built-in HTML5 media player.

The camera may also be sending other streams or still images if Java isn't installed that are shown instead.
You normally only need Java to control the camera.
Another odd FF operation is I can view / alter all the Axis menus items. Now with a D-Link IP web camera, you can’t do much of anything without Java.
Yes, Java is used to control the camera and its features. The Axis Default Viewer is MJPEG, Quicktime or Active X (this would be on the client side). The video is streamed out and Codex is with Motion JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264.
It’s so odd that FF is able to “interpret” / view an IP camera that is java and I have no java Add-ons or Extensions installed. For that matter, I haven’t come across a web site that prompted me about not having Java.
Something is going on behind the scenes.

My Axis IP camera streaming is set for Motion JPEG with the viewer Java applet. The stream is “pushed” out with Motion JPEG, which in intended for IE and other browsers.
Doing some more research into IP cameras, it appears that there’s no escaping Java and in my case I’m able to view without java.
This question was basically a curiosity question, wondering how it is I’m able to use my Axis camera without any Java installed. It’s working and not sure how or why. I guess I shouldn’t wonder too much.
